The newly reformed Real Salt Lake-Arizona youth development program, which is a partnership between long-time Phoenix-based clubs Sereno Soccer and Legacy Soccer, received acceptance from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy to add four Utah Royals FC teams in the Southwest Division for the 2018-2019 season.
The expansion will add U14, U15, U16/17, and U18/19 teams that will put the impressive history of women’s soccer development from the Arizona market directly under the banner of the newly created NWSL team. Current U.S. National Team players Julie Ertz, Sydney Leroux Dwyer, and Jessica McDonald are among the players who came through the Sereno and Legacy clubs.
Combined with the news that the RSL Foundation is developing a new youth training facility on land leased from Utah Valley University that could potentially be a future home for a Royals FC Academy, this is another exciting step forward in the plans to make Utah the center point for all things soccer in America.
